Tips for writing letters:
Provide Contact Information. Most papers will only print information after contacting and verifying the writer. Without contact information, they cannot verify who you are.
Be Clear and Concise. Be brief. Newspapers have a finite amount of space. The more thought out and concise, the better. A general rule of thumb is to keep your letter to 250 words or less.
State Your Point Early. Be sure to state the topic the first sentence of the letter and stick to it through the letter.
Stay on Message. Do not ramble or weave in between points. Keep the letter to a single subject.
Be Courteous. Few points are ever made by ad hominine attacks and even fewer letters of this type make it to print. Keep your letters positive and stick to the issues.
